Prison life takes away freedom as convicts are starved of certain privileges they may desire but cannot access.

This perception has been confirmed by an incident that occurred at Gwanda prison, in which an inmate failed to control his sexual desires prompting him to wake up in the dead of night and sodomise his cellmate.

Sebatha Moyo (22) of Shanyaugwe, Guyu area, already serving for charges of stock theft appeared before Gwanda magistrate, Mr Takudzwa Gwazemba for contravening Section 67 (1) (b) of the Criminal Law: Indecent Assault.

The court heard that on 26 January at 2am, Moyo woke up and inserted his manhood in-between the complainant’s thighs and ejaculated. The complainant feeling that his thighs were wet woke up to find Moyo’s pants down.

Trying to figure out what was happening, the complainant touched Moyo’s private parts and felt them wet. The complainant immediately woke up the other inmates’ screaming that Moyo was trying to sodomise him.”

Upon hearing the complainant’s screams, the other inmates woke up and used light coming from the tower light to investigate. In his defence, Moyo claimed to have had a wet dream and did not know what happened thereafter.

The trial is set to continue on Tuesday when two more witnesses are set to testify. Mr Edward Ndlovu prosecuted.
