MDC suspends its UK leadership

The MDC has suspended its Jonathan Chawora-led executive after allegations of mismanagement of funds.

 The concerns were raised by the MDC party’s Secretary General Tendai Biti’s brother, Stanford Biti.

A tabloid story authored by one publication made announcement Friday stating that the publication could ’sensationally’ reveal this suspension.

We herewith re-publish (below) the suspension letter written by Tendai Biti whose brother Stanford Biti in the UK leads the group set up to reveal the alleged scandal.

Ref: Suspension of UK/Ireland Province with effect from 17 November 2009

Pursuant of the submission of your financial report to the party leadership, the party leaders met and deliberated on the report and was shocked by the extent of the financial irregularities in the UK and Ireland accounts.

Irregularities were particularly noted on remittances and carry over balances on membership cards anmd bank balances. Furthermore, the party leadership noted the failure on the part of the UK and Ireland province to submit regular financial reports as per instructions issued to your province on 17 October 2007 by the deputy treasurer General and by the Deputy Secretary on 20 June 2008.

The party leadership also noted with concern the diminished and arrested functionality of the UK/Ireland province due to extensive bickering and negative application energy.

Accordingly, the party leadership resolved as follows.

1.With effect from 17 November 2009, the UK/Ireland province be and is hereby suspended indefinitely pending full -scale investigations into the alleged financial irregularities and the disfunctionally of the UK/Ireland province.

2.Pending the findings of the investigations Head Office shall forthwith deal directly with the UK/Ireland District and branches.

3.An investigating committee whose terms of reference shall be set  out by the party leadership be constituted

This order prohibits the suspended leadership from engaging in any party activities or to purport to represent the party in the United Kingdom/Ireland province, in any capacity whatsoever.

Please be advised that the Investigating Committee will soon be dispatched to carry out investigations and in this regard, further details will be advised in due course
