Zimbabwe News Online: Show off nearly takes life of a Gay lover during picnic Show off nearly takes life of a Gay lover during picnic ================================================================================ chronicle on 05 September, 2010 10:47:00 The man (name withheld), was airlifted by a Shearwater-Zambezi Helicopter to the Victoria Falls Medical Centre where he was admitted and is said to be in a serious condition. His alleged partner was also seen at the hospital trying to contact his relatives. The hospital became a hive of activity as masses of residents and tourists came to catch a glimpse of the two. According to sources, the two men, who live along Courtney Selous in the town, went on a gay date about 15km from the resort town along the Zambezi River. “After the two had had a good time, the man decided to dive into the river to celebrate the relationship. The ‘girlfriend’ tried to discourage the man from jumping into the water but the guy slipped off and dived headlong into the water. “Immediately, part of the river where he jumped into turned red with blood while the man lay there unconscious,” said the source. He added that other people who were also picnicking in the same area rushed to scene and helped the man out of the water. “A good Samaritan on site quickly contacted Shearwater Helicopters and Mars for rescue and swiftly attended to the scene.” The incident comes as Zimbabweans have united in publicly denouncing a shadowy lobby to include gay “rights” in the new constitution. President Mugabe has in the past blasted gays as worse than pigs and dogs. Victoria Falls residents said the incident was “God’s punishment” for gay activities. “I am sure that this is the way God has decided to punish these people. Gay actions are an abomination to the whole community and should be condemned in the strongest of terms,” said Ms Nothando Ncube. Police also confirmed the incident.
