Mayoress beats woman over hubby

Police in Gweru arrested and briefly detained Gweru Mayoress, Ms Shamiso Gwari, on allegations of assaulting a neighbour .

The mayoress suspected the girl of having an affair with her husband. Gwari, who is wife to Gweru Mayor, Councillor Tedious Chimombe, is alleged to have summoned a 21-year-old woman (name supplied) from Mkoba 1 to her house in the same neighbourhood and assaulted her alleging that she had evidence that the young lady was having an affair with her husband.

The victim, who narrated her story to Sunday News during the course of the week, said she was still confused about the allegations levelled against her.

 “We consider her as our mother, just as her husband is considered the city father so when she called me to her house, I went without suspicion and when I got there I found her outside the house and she told me to wait for her in the lounge.

After a few minutes she came into the lounge and locked all the doors before she pounced on me shouting that l was having a relationship with her husband.

It was not until I fought back that she let go of me. I’m going to sue her and her informers for defamation of character which is why I have reported the case to the police,’’ said the victim.

 Efforts to get a comment from the accused were fruitless but the husband Clr Chimombe said he was not aware of the incident. “Shamiso is my wife and I am not aware of what you are talking about.

 If anything like that happened I have not been told about it. Besides I am not involved in any extra-marital affairs,’’ said Clr Chimombe. Acting Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident
