Man head butts wife for refusing sex

A 51-year-old man head butted his wife for denying him his conjugal rights, as she was not feeling well resulting in the woman fleeing from their home to hide in the bush stark naked.

The couple lives together at Makokwe in Guyu near Gwanda. The man appeared before the Gwanda magistrate, Mr Takudzwa Gwazemba, recently and pleaded guilty to contravening section 4 as read with section 3 (1) of the Domestic Violence Act .

The prosecutor, Mr Jefter Nyikadzinashe, told the court that on 27 January around 8pm, the couple was sleeping in their bedroom when the man woke up his wife and told her he wanted to make love to her.

The wife told the husband that she could not fulfil his wish, as she was not feeling well. Her refusal fuelled his temper and he started insulting her, questioning her on why she became ill every time he wanted to consummate their marriage.

When the complainant could not produce a suitable answer, he could not control his anger and head butted her on the face twice leading to the woman sustaining a swollen face.

The complainant, who was naked at the time, ran out of the bedroom and out of the house to the bush where she hid. The husband chased his wife while threatening to kill her and burn their home if she did not return to the house.

The complainant called out her daughters to bring her a blanket to cover herself. After covering herself the woman did not return to her home but slept in the bush until the next day.

She reported her husband leading to his arrest. The man is awaiting sentence set for this week.
