Zimbabwe News Online: Macheso's wife miscarries again Macheso's wife miscarries again ================================================================================ H metro on 30 May, 2010 11:46:00 The family got confirmation that their anticipated child had died on Friday forcing Alick to abort his shows due to the miscarriage at home. This fresh tragedy made it almost certain that this would be the annus horribilis for the arts industry after the death of Sam Mtukudzi in a road traffic accident and the suicide of Tongai Moyo’s wife Barbara recently. The ace sungura artiste was scheduled to hold three shows alongside Tendai and Morgan Dembo; sons of the late Leonard Dembo. He was however, forced to make a change of plan to create ample time to be by his wife’s side. There was chaos at Wedza Spacemen Bar in Glen-Norah where Macheso was set to perform after news that he would not be available for the show filtered. Some rowdy revellers whistled in protest while others threatened to beat up the employees at the bar. The fans who had braved the darkness after electricity blackout demanded that Macheso fulfil the show even before they had paid the entrance fee. Macheso failed to at least give revellers an apology as they would have understood his predicament in the face of such immeasurable tragedy. However, he may have been so overcome by grief that he may have wanted a moment alone and not get his fans in the loop with regards his family tragedy. Macheso also failed to turn up for another show at Traveller’s Tavern in Dzivarasekwa on Saturday. H-Metro went to Macheso house on Friday night fresh in the wake of the miscarriage to establish what had happened. An uncle who had just arrived at Macheso’s home said Macheso had gone to “the hospital to monitor the condition of his wife.” “Macheso is not yet back. He has gone to the hospital somewhere in Belvedere,” said the uncle who was then also sceptical on the possibility of weekend shows. H-Metro spotted some of Macheso’s lieutenants at Daiton Somanje’s show held at Joy Centre Night Club in Chitungwiza on Saturday. “Shows were cancelled to give Mudhara (Macheso) some time to be with his family,” said Obert Gomba who plays drums at Orchestra Mberikwazvo. However, H-Metro finally managed to speak to the first lady of sungura music yesterday as she spoke by her husband’s side from their Chitungwiza home. Nyadzisai said hypertension had affected the child in the womb. “BP yanga yakakwira and this affected the child,” she said yesterday. She said the child died on Thursday but was only removed from the womb on Saturday around mid-day confirming that this was a case of a stillbirth. “A doctor at Chitungwiza Central Hospital told me that the child had died on Thursday. I then proceeded to Queen of Peace Clinic in Hatfield where it was confirmed on Friday that the child had died. This is Nyadzisai’s SECOND miscarriage. She miscarried two years ago and hypertension was also linked to the mishap. Nyadzisai and Alick’s children would by now have been eight, had it not been for the two miscarriages and the death of a son called Ernest. Ernest died in his infancy. Speaking to H-Metro through his manager William Tsandukwa, Orchestra Mberikwazvo’s most trusted sidekick said they had indeed cancelled all the shows to allow Macheso ample time to mourn his child. “I can not comment on that issue but it’s true that we had to cancel weekend shows. “We will resume with our shows next week in Masvingo,” he said. In an interview with H-Metro at the Celebrities Dinner dance in March, Nyadzisai had revealed that she was expecting a baby girl. “I feel happy to be a mother again,” she had said then. “The family can’t wait for the baby. It’s a baby girl. Doctors have told me that I will be going into labour in July. According to the ultrasound scan, it’s a baby girl,” she was quoted as saying ecstatically. She also revealed that the baby was going to be their living child number six and her girls would then add up to five. “This would be my sixth (living) child. And this one is really special for me and the family. It will also mean that I now have five daughters and a son,” she said. Nyadzisai and Alick are no strangers in the world of child miscarriages. In 2008, Nyadzisai was devastated after she suffered a miscarriage. She was five months pregnant then. Macheso was again forced to abort his show at Harare Gardens to rush to Queen of Peace Maternity Hospital in Hatfield where Nyadzisai had been admitted. Ironically, contrary to the name of the maternity hospital, the Machesos have not known any peace in parenting over the past few years as Queen of Peace is also where the lifeless foetus was removed on Saturday.
